How do I become a member?· Fill out a membership form available on the Forms/Resources page. · Send the completed form to our secretary. · Pay your fee to our treasurer. · Our club will contact you. As an affiliated club on the Budgerigar Society of New South Wales (BSNSW) we will send your membership information to the BSNSW. This will than make you a member of the New England Budgerigar Club of NSW affiliated through the BSNSW.

What do I get for becoming a member?· Become a member of both New England budgerigar Club of NSW and the BSNSW · Receive a BSNSW Magazine sent via email or hardcopy. · Can purchase official ANBC Leg bands/Rings for your budgerigars. · Exhibit in official Budgerigar shows and gain points towards your exhibition status. · Covered by insurance and can participate in club events.

Can I exhibit any budgerigar in a show?To exhibit a budgerigar in a show certain rules must be followed. · Budgerigar must be bred by the exhibitor. · Bird must have official ANBC closed aluminium ring on one leg that is issued in the Exhibitor’s name, proving ownership. · Bird must be displayed in official Show cage. · Bird must be entered correctly into the show in the correct class.

What is a young bird vs old Bird/Any age bird vs unbroken cap?· A young bird is a bird rung with the previous years closed leg ring. · An old bird/Any age bird is a bird rung with a closed leg ringing showing it is older than a young bird. · An unbroken cap bird is a bird with a closed leg ring from the current year and/or have not completed its first moult.

What are coded rings vs normal rings?· Uncoded rings are official leg bands with a NSW code and number. · Coded rings are official leg bands for your budgerigar that contain a custom code up to 5 characters long that if not already used by a member can become your own breeding code.

When are rings ordered and received by members?Rings must be ordered and paid for by July the 1st and are then issued at the end of December for the season to start on the 1st of January(note coded rings can only be purchased once for the year). However, location of members will affect time in which rings are received in the mail.

Can I buy rings during the year?Yes, you can contact your ring registrar and they will contact the BSNSW and order uncoded rings for you.

When and where are meetings held?Due to our club covering a large area meetings are online via zoom sessions. The meetings occur on the 1st Sunday of each month with links sent via messenger, email and the events page on this website.

Where do I buy my first exhibition budgerigars?Once your a member of our club you can contact other members that will have birds to sell you and they might even get you started with a budgie or two. Also, once a member it is easier to find breeders contacts, for example through the magazine or both our New England club and BSNSW FB pages.

How much does it cost to become a member?It is $10 for juniors and $40 for adults/family, $20 for New England and $20 for BSNSW. All information is available on the membership form.

Do clubs compete?Affiliated clubs of the BSNSW compete at the State Team Challenge each year, where the best birds are selected to compete for NSW at the ANBC nationals against other states, competing for the position of the best budgerigars in Australia.
